YOU SHOULD KNOW

Creating Color Magazine Ads

All color material and insertion orders for Gay City Guide should be sent directly to your sales person and also to ads@gaycitynews.com.

In addition, we require high-end digital contract level proofs for all color ad material to ensure the highest quality of reproduction.

Color Production Guidelines

Gay City Guide will be a minimum 72 page 4/c throughout, 60 pound glossy product with a self cover.

Trim size is 6.25" x 9.5".

We maintain a digital workflow process and digital input is required.

The following is acceptable for color gravure advertisements in order of preference.

Digital Input - Supported Layout and Graphic Applications

1. Adobe Acrobat v.3, 4.05, 7.0 - PDF File Format (Portable Document Format).

2. Native Desktop Application Files (Macintosh Format) - QuarkXPress® and/or Adobe InDesign (all versions).

3. TIFF/IT-P1 - Continuous tone (CT) and linework (LW) files must be supplied with a Final Page (FP) file for each page.
4. SciTex Native (RMX) - Continuous tone (CT) and linework (LW) files must be supplied with a FLYT file for each native format page.

Notes

Gay City News prefers that all ads be supplied as single-page documents.

Resolution is typically 12 lines per mm (305 dpi). CT files and scans should be supplied as 300 dpi. It is recommended that any excess hi-res image not used in the ad be cropped to limit processing time. Linework files may be supplied at any resolution. Typical LW resolutions are 34 and 51 lines per mm, or approximately 863 and 1296 dpi respectively.

For application files, supply copies of all screen fonts used in the page layout and within EPS supplied artwork files. Supply screen and printer fonts for any custom or modified fonts used. Provide a complete listing of all fonts used to create the document or its included artwork.

All advertisers are requested to submit a high-end digital contract level proof with their ad material regardless of media delivery mode. Kodak Approval, Imation MatchPrint Laser, Polaroid PolaProof, Fuji Final or Dupont Digital Waterproof (on the manufacturers recommended publication stock or 60 lb. Textweb) are the only contract-level digital proofs accepted.
